What to do and how to go about fixing your ethernet cables. This mainly applies to when you want to replace one end of the cable. Perhaps the tab broke, or perhaps the cable got cut or damaged in some way and is now unusable. Let me know if I helped. Also let me know if I stated something incorrectly or if something is confusing. I will try to help as much as possible in the comments section below. Thanks. – Josh

TripAdvisor app for Windows Phone 7 now available

tripadvisor windows phone 7TripAdvisor, the popular travel planning tool, has just launched an app for Windows Phone 7. Just like the mobile website, the app allows you to search for anything travel-related — from hotels and flights to restaurants and points-of-interest to visit once you reach your destination.

Geolocation is supported, which allows TripAdvisor to quickly locate places nearby. But while that’s a neat feature, it’s also a bit of a downer — because, really, it’s about the only feature TripAdvisor for WP7 brings to the table that its mobile Web app doesn’t already offer (its browser-based geolocation doesn’t work with WP7 at the moment).

While it’s nice to see Windows Phone 7 users getting some big-name apps, it’d be even nicer if we saw some packing a bit more swagger.

Still, TripAdvisor for WP7 might just be worth installing on your device if you’re frequently on the go — at least until a better browser arrives with the Mango update.

Google’s Web-Only Chromebook Now Available for Pre-Order

Samsung debuted its version of the Chromebook in May. Photo: Michael Calore/Wired.com

Google announced on Thursday that its web-only laptop, the Chromebook, is now available for pre-order in the United States via Best Buy or Amazon websites.

Google’s Chromebook hardware is currently offered by two manufacturers — Samsung and Acer — with two different product designs. Both manufacturers are offering Wi-Fi only and 3G versions of the device.

“Nothing but the web,” Google Chrome’s Twitter account wrote Thursday evening, linking followers to the sale page. Chromebook pre-orders ship on June 15.

As a web-only device, the Chromebook fits in perfectly with Google’s vision of a cloud-based future. Essentially, the Chromebook takes the netbook and strips it of the components found in most laptop computers. There’s no visible operating system outside of Google’s Chrome browser (hence the name), which means the interface is entirely web-based. There’s also no significant local storage (though it does have a removable SD card slot), which means everything you’re using on the device must be stored and accessed remotely from online servers.

Of course, Google’s cloud-based vision has you covered there. Want access to your photos? Upload them to Picasa, Google’s photo storage site. Hankering for music? Google Music (now in beta) stores all your music on the internet, streaming songs to the device. The same goes for documents (Google Docs), calendars (Google Calendar) and most other things you could think to use on your netbook.

Acer’s cutely titled “Cromia” comes with an 11.6-inch HD display, 6-hour battery life, and weighs just under 3 pounds. The Wi-Fi only version costs 0, and the Verizon-carried 3G version comes priced at 0.

Samsung’s model comes with a bump up in features, as well as a boost in price. The display is larger by about an inch, and it’s a little heavier at 3.1 pounds. But Samsung says its Chromebook gets an added 2.5 more hours of battery life than Acer’s slightly cheaper model. Samsung’s model will start at 0 for Wi-Fi, and 0 for a 3G version.

Google first debuted the Chromebook at the company’s developer-centric event in May, Google I/O.

Gadget Lab Show: Nook Simple Touch, Pebble Smartwatch and the Big Jawbone Jambox Laptop Repair

runMobileCompatibilityScript(‘myExperience1638513846001′, ‘anId’); brightcove.createExperiences();

On this week’s edition of the Gadget Lab Show, the gang takes a gander at the Nook Simple Touch e-reader and the Pebble Smartwatch, the most successful Kickstarter project ever.

Gadget Lab editor Jon Phillips and Reviews editor Michael Calore open up the show with a look at the Barnes & Noble Nook Simple Touch E-Ink reader. It’s been updated from last year’s model to include an LED backlight that illuminates the screen from behind, making it easier to read at night. It’s still got a touch-sensitive screen. The light adds to the price, making it 0. If you’re on the fence as to what e-reader to buy, Michael advises not to look at the e-reader itself, but the platform it belongs to.

Next up, staff writer Alexandra Chang joins Jon to talk about the Pebble Smartwatch, which she got to check out first-hand in Palo Alto, California. The display is a memory LCD, which is easy to read in bright sunlight, and refreshes more quickly than similar-looking E-Ink displays. The Pebble team sold 85,000 watches, and reached .2 million in their Kickstarter campaign. Pebble Smartwatches should begin shipping to the original Kickstarter backers in September.

To close the show, Michael joins Jon again to go hands-on with the new Big Jambox from Jawbone. Its design apes the original Jambox, but the speaker is about 10 inches long, and bigger in every dimension. For those who aren’t familiar, the original Jambox is an uber-popular 0 Bluetooth speaker. This larger model is 0, and works exactly the same as the original, but is way louder and has better audio quality all around.
